Omkar Shende, of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department, awarded the Outstanding Leadership Award in Materials, in recognition of his leadership and dedication to the MSE Program. Omkar’s senior thesis entitled ‘On the Efficacy and Accuracy of Models for Large Eddy Simulations of Turbulent Premixed Combustion’ analyzes data gathered from a large-scale simulation of a turbulent jet flame to verify if certain additive algebraic models proposed by MacArt et al. are valid.
Omkar was a leader of the Princeton Materials Research Society where he served as Secretary and Treasurer in 2016, then President in 2017. He attended the Materials Research Society spring meeting last year and has helped spearheaded a number of successful events, including study breaks, open houses, and our most popular annual blacksmith event. After graduation, Omkar will be pursuing a PhD in mechanical engineering at Stanford.
